Wisdom teeth stink...

I HATE DENTAL PROCEDURES. I know, I know, most people do as well, but I have NEVER had a good dental experience.

Exhibit A: 1994
Had to have a baby tooth pulled because it had a massive cavity. Gave me some novacaine. Everything going splendid...until novacaine WEARS off halfway through! They were almost done, so the dentist just finished it without pain meds. My dad still has the scars on his hand from where I gripped his hand.

Exhibit B: 2011
I had to have a root canal. The actual root canal went OK. But the crown procedure did not. The dental hygienist sucked and apparently didn't send off the right mold. So my dentist bitched me out for waiting so long to get my permanent crown. When she realized it was her people's mistake, she made me a new one. But it still didn't fit, so she had to scrape away my gum. Oy vey.

Exhibit C: 2012
My first cleaning this year, I had to have a deep cleaning. My fault for not being the greatest dental health person. (Please don't reprimand me! I know, I know.) I brush my teeth twice daily but that's about it. After experience the awfulness that is a deep cleaning, I was an ideal dental health person. Took the nasty mouth wash and everything.
So I was told I wouldn't need another deep cleaning. But apparently, halfway through my second annual cleaning, which was a deep cleaning, my dentist realized no one had ever updated my chart. So I had to go through a deep cleaning for NO REASON!!!

So needless to say I was NOT looking forward to my wisdom teeth extraction today. After I woke up, I felt ok. In a bit pain, but okay. Dr. checked me out, gave me some more gauze and sent me on my way.

I was halfway home when I realized something was wrong. My mouth wouldn't stop filling up with blood and I felt faint. After stopping at critical care, they sent me back to my surgeon. He took very good care of me, putting meds and stitching me up. When I asked if what happened was normal, he said there's a very small chance of not clotting and that I was today's lucky winner. YAY me.

So now I'm sitting on my couch, eating some mashed potatoes and watching the latest season of Army Wives. It's like Netflix knew I'd be sitting on my butt for a few days so they added new episodes.

Any of you ever had dental issues? Here's my plan for the rest of the weekend:

I totally agree, don't you?

I need this...

I noticed that Erin at Living In Yellow is doing a really cool link up called I Believe In. Her list is a mixture of hilarious and serious. Which is just like her blog.

Here's my own list:
I believe in... having dessert after every meal.

I believe in... high expectations that are appropriate for my students.

I believe in... naps on the weekends with my kitty.

I believe in... listening to those with more experience than you.

I believe in... spending as much time as possible with those you love.

I believe in... letting things go. Nothing good comes from grudges.

I believe in... supporting your team no matter what!

I believe in... going to Disney World and letting your inner child free!

I believe in... watching Big Bang Theory whenever an episode is on. BAZINGA!

I believe in... getting lost in a good book.

I believe in... friends who can go ages without talking but are there for you in a heartbeat.

I believe in taking chances.

That's all that I could think of at the moment, but it helped brighten my dreary day. What do you believe in?

Sometimes you just need a lazy day...

My plan for today was to be productive. I wanted to organize my bathroom, finish my math plans, and type up the grade level newsletter so I could really enjoy tomorrow and Monday. But those plans were stifled.

Yep, stifled by BUG BITES! Ugh. My ankle got bitten twice in the same spot at two different times yesterday. I woke up today and my ankle was swollen beyond belief. Walking made the bites itch, so I just had a lazy day in front of my TV, where I am finishing HIMYM on Netflix.

The lazy day was exactly what I needed. I've been going non stop since school started. NON STOP. I want to help my kiddos and help the new teachers on my team. But this lazy day showed me I need to take time for myself.

So I set some goals for next week:
  • Set an agenda for grade level meetings. They've been getting off track and I've been feeling intimidated and worried about stepping on people's toes. I need to lead. So hopefully the agenda works.
  • Go to the gym at least twice, if not three times. I'm going to pack my gym bag and leave it in my car every night.
  • Leave work by 4:30 (except on the grade level planning day.). Balance is important.I need to spend time with J and the other people that I love.
  • Read a book for fun each night and disconnect from the internets. Guys, I love reading your blogs but sometimes I find myself spending hours at night on my computer and that's not good. Here's to going back to reading  for fun.
So I will let you know how I do. Now off to make an ice cream sundae and finish off HIMYM.

Woo! It's Friday!

Oh thank goodness, this week is finally over! It's been super long but great.

1. Survived my first week back in first grade and at a new school. Completely forgot how chatty firsties can be!

2. Survived Open House. My ELL parents were grateful for my mom and my non ELL parents seemed comfortable with the fact that their child is part of this class.

3. My two year anniversary was this week. Will be celebrating it tomorrow at the Melting Pot!

4. Will be helping out new freshman at my alma mater tomorrow. Love the good ol FC!

5. My school picture turned out great!

Hope you had a good week too! Hopefully I'll relax this weekend. Linking up Lauren at From My Grey Desk Blog.

Heat pad is my bff...

HIMYM is one of my absolute favorite show. I'm watching "The Sexless Innkeeper" and it's making me laugh really hard. Which is a good and a bad thing. Good: helps me relax. Bad: aggravates my pulled back muscle.

Yep, I pulled my back on the first day of school. I leaned down to one of my kiddos and when I stood back PAIN CENTRAL. Even my students were like "Ms. Albino, you ok?" Thanks to J, I do have an amazing heating pad to use. J just keeps racking up the awesome boyfriend points. (Tomorrow is our two year anniversary! CRAAAAZZZZY!)

Besides the pulled muscle and the torrential downpour at dismissal, today was pretty fantastic. My ESOL parents were really happy to have a teacher who could understand them, and my non ESOL parents were pretty kick butt themselves. I met everyone's parents. THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE! I have 19 kids, 11 boys and 8 girls. Had to bust out my mean teacher voice a few times, but overall I think it will be a really fun group.

Hopefully tomorrow goes just as well. At least I'll have more than 20 minutes to prepare! If the rest of this week goes as smoothly then I'll be able to enjoy my weekend. :)

Have a great week everyone!

New beginnings...

Tomorrow is August 6th. It's a date that signifies the start of something new. Even though I don't officially go back to work until the 13th, my school is open to teachers tomorrow. Tomorrow I will see my new classroom. I will meet my new co-workers. I will begin to learn the ins and outs of my new school.

It would be a complete lie if I said I wasn't nervous or scared. My last school was my home. It's where I felt comfortable. I knew it like the back of my hand. It was so small, that I knew almost every student's name. I honestly never thought that I would leave (not at least until I had children.) But then last year happened. I was made to feel like an incompetent teacher. My grade level wasn't respected because it wasn't an FCAT grade. Last year was draining, both physically and emotionally. So even though I adored my co workers, I made the decision to transfer.

I am excited about my new school. My principal seems great and I won't be the only newbie. I get a chance to be role model for other Hispanic kids. Growing up, I never had a Hispanic teacher. I'm excited to better my communicating skills in Spanish. I'm excited to work with my ESOL babies. I'm nervous about being team lead, but I know I'm the best choice. Most of the teachers on my team have less than 2 years experience. The other two veterans are new to primary. It'll be a fun challenge. A challenge I'm ready for.

My friend once told me, it's okay to feel scared when change happens. It shows you how important that change is to you. So wish me luck!

P.S. Cross your fingers that my new classroom isn't full of old file cabinets, broken books, and speakers the way my very first classroom was!
P.P.S Cross your toes that I win the giveaway over at About Fais. An Erin Condren planner would be a great way to start my year!

Weekly goals

In case you didn't know it, I am an elementary school teacher. I'm currently off until August 13th. I'm not typing that for anyone to be jealous, just to be informative. Last summer was long and boring and caused me to gain ten pounds. I'm starting at a new school, so I want to be refreshed. Hence why I have tried to come up with some weekly goals.

Goal numero uno:
GYM! I didn't go that much last week, and my gym got bought out by LA Fitness, so my favorite classes were dropped. But I always feel better after going, so I need to make sure I go at least 5 times this week.

Goal numero dos:
I splurged a bit last week, and even though I have three extra paychecks sitting in my savings account, I want to be good and pay myself on my traditional pay schedule. So that means this week, no going out unless it's to do something free (or unless J wants to pay! hehehe)

Goal numero tres:
I have a massive necklace collection. They are all mostly long ones, so they are uber tangled up. I've been browsing Pinterest, looking for a DIY jewelery holder.

This is an example of one I want to make, but I am going to tweak it a bit. So hopefully by the end of this week I am no longer screaming in frustration at my necklaces being entangled.

Goal numero cuatro:
Be a better girlfriend. This may seem silly, but yesterday I pulled a classic Nilda with J. I knew I was being annoying and I didn't stop. (Hey no one's perfect!) I hope to make it up to him this week. I wish there was a way I could surprise him at work, but he works at Florida Blue, the health insurance company.

They have the tightest security system out of any company (which is a good thing; don't really want my personal info getting hacked!) Just makes it hard to surprise boyfriends.

So there are my goals! Hopefully I'll be successful. Oh, I'm linking up with Covered in Grace for
